VLE (Virtual Learning Environment):
- There is real potential for collaboration and sharing of resources/approaches between teachers/tutors across the VEC - This approach is already being adopted by AES
- The initial focus should be on getting teachers/tutors comfortable and skilled in the use of Moodle
- Moodle will be ready to go live in all locations for the start of the new academic year
- First Step is giving all staff a school/service email address and a VEC address using a common platform (MS Exchange) across the VEC
- This will mean all staff are one active directory with huge benefits for communication and planning of projects
- In GCL all students have email - We should aim to have all full-time learners with learner email adresses. The best approach may be to use a service such as live@edu as it will mean that spam control etc. is not the responsibility of the VEC or School/Service
- Email addresses for Students/Learners should be clearly differentiated from staff email addresses to avoid confusion
Video Conferencing
- Together with skype (or other VOIP services) Video conferencing can significantly reduce costs
- User practices need to change (eg - maximum use of mobile phones could also significantly reduce landline bills)
I wish to thank all those involved in the implementation of new ICT systems within CLVEC and their respective centre.
ReplyDeleteWithout doubt, these new systems will improve the access to and flow of information between 1) Head Office and centres and 2) centres and other centres.
Sharepoint, when rolled out, will transform our means of communication. Alongside this, the move to Microsoft Exchange and the use of Microsoft Outlook will enable all staff to communicate with each other.
The common use of Moodle will benefit both student and teacher and enable the sharing of ideas etc.
The long term goal is to integrate as many systems as possible. As you may know, the part-time teacher claim form system is being rolled out as off this month after its pilot in St. Nessan's C.C.
